IS101 Blog Post: Second Week of March

I thought Phase 1 of IS101 Spring 2026 was pretty good, and I learned a lot about Microsoft Word. At times though it felt pretty loaded, especially with all the LabSims and trying to catch up with the due dates. I was glad to have completed all the LabSims leading up to the MO-110 Word certification exam, and I was happy to have been given the time to finish and make up any incorrect questions or assignments that I missed. What I would have done differently was to complete all the tasks and assignments so I didn't have to go back to them and to study more for the bonus quizes.

Regarding one of the LabSims in Chapter 4, I learned from "4.7.1 Text Wrap Options" that there is a feature where you can actually have the image of your document on Word wrap around the sentences so that it looks more neat and professional. When the image is placed after being inserted to the document, its default option is "In Line with Text" where the cursor was left. However, by going to the "Picture Format" tab under "Arrange" and "Wrap Text", you can change the option to "square" and have the text wrap around the image.

I was happy to have a pretty high score at the MO-110 Word certification exam. What I did to prepare for the exam was to rewatch some of the videos and redo some of the lab exercises and practice exams. What really helped me was when I had to "qualify" for the exam by completing all the LabSims with 100% and this allowed me to understand and remember all the points and tasks that I missed. By redoing the assignments, I was able to get a full grasp of what I had to do to be successful in the exam.

Spring break is near and I'm planning to relax and read more books. I still have a lot of books that I purchased from Amazon and I'm trying to catch up with my new years resoultion by reading at least 3-4 books a month. My favorite book that I read so far was a book called "Atomic Habits" by James Clear and it really made me understand how to build good habits and avoid bad habits. Anyhow, I hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing spring break!

  1. I like the chess theme on your blog, it makes the page feel very strategic and organized. The way you explained the text wrapping options was also really clear, because that was something I didn’t really think about before either. It’s funny how a small setting like that can make a document suddenly look much more professional.

Your plan for spring break sounds very productive too. Honestly, my version of spring break is probably the opposite, I’m just planning to sleep a lot and stay home because this semester has been exhausting. If I do anything, it will probably be playing Final Fantasy XIV PvP, because somehow fighting other players is my weird way of releasing stress after weeks of assignments and LabSim. Sometimes the best reset is just doing something completely different for a while.

  2. Glad to hear you learned a lot about Microsoft Word and you thought Phase 1 is pretty good, Jay-R :-)

The need to reach 100% forces one to focus and diagnose what went wrong and correct it. Glad this helped you to earned the third highest score on MO-110 Word exam!

I hope you are now relaxing and reading a book during Spring Break ^_^

  3. Hi Jay-R. This class is pretty overwhelming, but generous with being able to go back and do late work. Text Wrap changed the game for me, when I was in high school I would "wrap" the text around any pictures I used by hand. I'm glad that you used your spring break to relax and read. I'd like to start reading more books too!

  4. The Text Wrap Options lesson is actually really useful. I didn’t realize how much cleaner documents can look just by changing that one setting, so that was a good point to highlight. Also congrats on doing well on the MO-110, that’s awesome. I also rewatch the videos and redo the practice exercises when I study, and honestly it works really well for me too because it helps things actually stick instead of just looking at them once.

  5. Hey Jay-R! Yes the tools within LabSim was a great way to test your knowledge and how much you knew before the upcoming exam it was a great way to prepare and help you pass as well as it was for me. I too found the text wrap option very handy as it gives you the options to use photos within documents and still make it look neat.

  6. Hi Jay-R. It is cool that you are setting yourself a goal for reading every month. What is your favorite genre? I enjoy reading science fiction books.

  7. Hello Jay-R, what a fun goal you set for yourself! Reading is so fun, I have been giving audiobooks a shot since sometimes there's not enough time to read.

  8. Hi Jay-R, text wrap was definitely one of my favorite things to learn about simply because it's such a common issue with images not blending well with the document I'm trying to write. Reading 3 to 4 books a month is no small feat, good luck with that!

  9. Hi Jay‑R, your post really inspired me. I also want to set a goal to read more books, but I know I need to manage my time better to make it happen. And I’m really glad to hear you’re happy with your MOS Word exam score, you definitely earned it.

  10. Hello Jay-R, the text wrap option is a great tool to use in Word. We can use it to break text into different options, such as in line with text, square, tight, etc. One of my favorites is the square.

  11. I also think it’s great that you pointed out the “Text Wrap Options” feature. That’s one of those small tools that can really elevate the professionalism of a document, and it’s awesome that you’re paying attention to those details.

  13. Atomic Habits is such a life changing book. I'm planning on getting the actual thing rather than listening to it since that's what I did at first. I wish I can do the same as you reading books for a hobby but I always fall asleep half-way through. With the sole exception of Dungeon Crawler Carl. That book, while being sci-fi and fantasy, the humor is top tier.

  15. Hello Jay-R, reading books especially ones that help motivate you into creating better habits is a good habit in itself. Congratulations on the high exam score, I hope that continued throughout the semester. I really like the "text wrap" feature also it's super helpful when you are creating large spreadsheets and some words just want to spill out.

  17. Hey Jay-R, What I like about text wrap is that, when used correctly, it can make work look clean. I think back to when I had to read the big textbooks in middle school, sometimes in class the textbook would be lying on the desk and when I would open it there almost always was an image near the beginning of the text and it had to have the text wrapped and it looked very professional, hats off to you for choosing this!

  18. Hey Jay-R, I like the topic you chose. This was something I learned that actually came in handy for me outside of just this class. We were allowed to make our notes digitally and I decided to use Word. I had a problem though which was not having enough printing credits. I had too much words and a huge picture and did not want to put them in separate pages but it was not going to fit by the way they were positioned. Guess what? Text wrapping came in handy and saved me from not having those notes in my exam! :)
